Explora Journeys: When Cruising Feels Like a 5-Star Hotel at Sea

There are cruises… and then there’s Explora Journeys.

This wasn’t just a ship—it felt like stepping into a beautifully curated, floating boutique hotel designed for someone with impeccable taste (and let’s be honest… a love for space, calm, and really good food).

First Impressions: Effortless Luxury

Embarkation set the tone immediately.
No chaos. No long lines. No stress.

It felt more like checking into a luxury hotel than boarding a cruise. And the welcome glass of champagne? A simple touch—but exactly the right one.

From the moment you step onboard, there’s an ease to everything. It’s refined without being pretentious, polished without being overwhelming.

The Ship & Suites: Design That Actually Matters

Explora Journeys is beautiful.

Not in a flashy, over-the-top way—but in that understated, “someone really thought this through” kind of way. Clean lines, calming tones, elegant finishes… it’s the kind of environment that makes you exhale the moment you walk in.

And the suites?
Genuinely stunning.

Spacious, thoughtfully designed, and incredibly comfortable—these are not your typical cruise cabins. They feel like proper hotel rooms… the kind you don’t mind spending time in. (In fact, you’ll probably want to.)

This is where Explora really stands apart—it caters to the client who is used to 5-star hotels and expects that same level of quality at sea.

Service: Flawless, Yet Discreet

The service was excellent. Truly.

Everything ran smoothly, requests were handled quickly, and there was a consistent level of professionalism throughout.

What stood out most?
It was seamless.

What it wasn’t, however, was overly relationship-driven. If you’re someone who loves being greeted by name at every turn or building that personal connection with crew, you may find it a bit more reserved.

But for many clients—especially those who value privacy and subtlety—that’s exactly the appeal.

Dining: Consistently Strong (and Lobster Lovers Rejoice)

Let’s talk about the food… because it deserves it.

Dining was a highlight. A great variety of restaurants, consistently high-quality meals, and yes… lobster seemingly whenever your heart desires (which, for me, was often).

One important tip:

Book your dining reservations early.

If you don’t, you may find yourself eating quite late in the evening. It’s manageable—but planning ahead makes a big difference.

Entertainment & Atmosphere: Quietly Enjoyable

Entertainment onboard was good—not over-the-top, not trying too hard.

And honestly? That felt intentional.

This isn’t a ship that’s trying to dazzle you every second. It’s designed for guests who don’t need constant stimulation to enjoy themselves.

That said, I did personally miss a bit more music—especially around the pool deck. A little energy there would go a long way.

And if I could make one wish?
An Irish pub onboard.

A cozy, lively spot to gather after the evening shows would add just the right touch of fun and contrast to the otherwise serene vibe.

Tender Ports: Organized to Perfection

We had two tender ports on this sailing, and the process was… very organized.

Perhaps even too organized.

Guests waited in a lounge for their color to be called before heading ashore. While it may not have felt spontaneous, it ran efficiently and smoothly—no confusion, no chaos.

Who Is This For? (This Is the Important Part)

Explora Journeys is not for everyone—and that’s exactly its strength.

This is not a high-energy, social, activity-packed cruise.
You won’t find belly flop contests or loud poolside parties here.

Instead, this is for the traveler who:

  • Prefers a luxury hotel over a resort
  • Values space, design, and calm
  • Enjoys great food without fanfare
  • Doesn’t need constant entertainment to feel fulfilled
  • Appreciates quiet sophistication

It’s ideal for clients who want to relax, unwind, and enjoy their surroundings—not be entertained every minute of the day.

Final Thoughts

I feel incredibly grateful to have experienced Explora Journeys.

It delivers on what it promises: a refined, elevated, and beautifully designed experience at sea.

For the right client, it’s exceptional.
For the wrong one, it could feel a little too quiet.

And that’s the magic of it—it knows exactly who it’s for.
