Celebrity River Cruises sets sail for 2027

Celebrity Cruises is bringing its signature modern-luxe vibe from the ocean to Europe’s rivers — and yes, it’s as chic as it sounds. After months of teasers, brochures and agent webinars, the line has revealed the look, ships, itineraries and the luxe-room details that make these river sailings feel more like a boutique floating hotel than a traditional river boat. Whether you’re a seasoned cruiser or a first-timer, understanding what to expect, where you’ll sail, and the unique features of river cruise ships can make all the difference in your journey. Here’s what you need to know:

River cruising is already beloved for its calm, slow-immerse approach to Europe’s cities (think overnight stays, multiple daytime stops and walking right into town). Celebrity’s entrance promises to bring that same elevated, contemporary hospitality it’s known for at sea — but scaled and redesigned for river travel. The company has ordered a fleet of 10 river vessels and will debut two purpose-built ships in 2027: Celebrity Compass and Celebrity Seeker.

The two initial river ships are influenced by Celebrity’s Edge-class design language — modern lines, open deck concepts and a focus on indoor/outdoor living — adapted for rivers (think lower profiles for locks and bridges, but with plenty of glass and public-deck spaces). Celebrity says the ships will offer features like an open deck, enhanced dining venues and a design-forward public realm.

The rooms: thoughtful, modern, and a few surprises

Celebrity released a brochure and webinar details that show very deliberate stateroom thinking:

• Skylight Infinite Balcony Suites: signature ceiling skylights that flood the suite with natural light (webinar Q&A confirms they are not see-through) and a separate living area — a skylight feature that’s new to river cruising.

Infinite Balcony: floor-to-ceiling windows that lower at the touch of a button (ocean-like infinite balcony concept).

• Balcony rooms & River View: king beds, spa-style baths, smart framed TVs that blend into art, customizable mini bars, in-room filtered water and other elevated touches. Many of these design points came from Celebrity’s webinar and official brochure.

Notable guest conveniences announced: complimentary Wi-Fi, in-room entertainment, customizable mini-bars, bathrobes/slippers and curated sensory details (ambient soundscapes and scent options mentioned in briefings). (Much of this detail was shared in Celebrity’s webinar and brochure materials.)

Celebrity’s inaugural 2027 river program focuses on the Danube and Rhine, offering a compact — and therefore highly curated — set of 33 seven-night sailings between the two rivers. Key highlights:

• Danube: multiple Budapest ↔ Vienna routings (including overnights), smaller towns along the Wachau Valley, and several Christmas-market sailings (very limited inventory for the holiday season).

• Rhine: fewer departures in 2027 (the lineup grows as more ships join the fleet), with special holiday/New Year sailings that include Nuremberg, Basel and Amsterdam. 

If you love Christmas markets, Celebrity is intentionally offering a handful of Christmas-market itineraries (Danube and Rhine) for 2027 — expect festive evening markets, seasonal treats and local performances on shore.

Celebrity is promising a broad choice of venues — more variety than some river lines — including recognizable Celebrity bars and brands adapted for river life (reports mention up to eight restaurants and bars across the ships, with venues like Martini Bar and Café Al Bacio appearing in the deckplans). Expect a mix of locally inspired cuisine and contemporary Celebrity signatures.

Celebrity has positioned its shore program around choice: each day guests will be offered at least one included shore excursion (with the ability to book additional curated, deeper-immersion experiences). Examples teased include private wine tastings in Austria, thermal-bath visits in Budapest and active options like cycling riverbanks. More detailed shore-excursion programming is planned to be published in early 2026.

• Priority booking / deposits: Celebrity opened priority/deposit access in 2025 for 2027 sailings; early access quickly sold out in priority windows, so expect availability to move fast when general sales open. 

• Limited inaugural capacity: only 33 sailings across two ships in year one — capacity is intentionally small, which means popular dates (holiday sailings, overnights in Vienna/Budapest) could sell out quickly. 

Consumer tips: if you’re targeting a Christmas-market experience or a specific overnight stop (Vienna, Budapest), lock it in early. Consider refundable deposit options if offered — inaugural seasons are small and often fill up fast.

• Travellers who love Celebrity’s modern-luxe aesthetic but want a slower, more intimate cultural pace.

• Couples and adult travellers seeking overnight city stays, easy walk-off port access, and contemporary design.

• Anyone who wants a river cruise with a modern hospitality spin — framed TVs, customizable minibar options, more dining venues and a tech-forward butler chat option were all part of the product positioning.
