Travelling across Canada - a trip down memory lane!

We call Canada our home, but have you actually ventured out from your own back yard to really see what this amazing country has to offer? Nearing the end of Canada’s 150th birthday, I feel like a little trip down memory lane is in order… When I was 19 my girlfriend and I took the trip of a lifetime and drove across this amazing land. When I say drove across I mean drove across from sea to sea! We started our journey in Vancouver and headed north past Prince George along a looong gravel road to the magical Liard Hot Springs. Skip the touristy pool, go at night and take the extra hike to the na...

Viva Las Vegas

Luck Be a Lady, Leaving Las Vegas, Sin City. How many songs have been written about this town in the middle of the desert??!! ??!! I hadn’t been in Vegas for a few years and each time I go there is something else that has changed. It is an ever evolving city that presents its patrons with something new each time. You could go every year and there will be something different and new to do. New hotels, new attractions, new shows. I did not stay at a new hotel but rather the Venetian. Both the Venetian and Palazzo are “luxury suite” hotels. Each suite is probably double the size of a regular ...

What did I get myself into?

I remember it well… sitting on my parents’ patio in Johannesburg, listening to my uncle tell stories of his adventures around the world. He owned a large travel agency in Germany, and was escorting a small group of clients on yet another African Safari. His life seemed so interesting as he regaled us with his travel experiences in exotic places like Asia, South America and Australasia. I was mesmerized and inspired, and then it hit me – this was what I wanted to do too! My graduation gift was a ships’ passage from South Africa to England, and so I packed up my belongings in one of those huge ...

Travelling on the Dreamliner

I just returned from a fabulous trip to Ireland. My flights to and from Vancouver were with Air Canada in Premium Economy. Premium Economy on the Dreamliner between Vancouver to Toronto was a wonderful experience. The seats are definitely bigger and the entertainment system is great. The in-flight service was wonderful. It is definitely worth it. I would highly recommend Premium Economy. Premium Rouge with Air Canada Rouge between Toronto and Dublin was great and the complimentary Ipads were nice. On my connection back through Toronto with my lay over, I was able to access the Maple Leaf Loun...

Tipping Etiquette For Travellers

Tipping rules vary around the world by country, region and scenario. It can be very confusing for travellers especially those of us from North America who are used to tipping fairly generously. Before you travel, it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with customs and expectations in your destination country, including rules about tipping. When you are travelling here is a guideline for tipping. Restaurant Meals (between 5-15% of the bill depending on the type of restaurant and local custom) Hotel Concierge (up to $30 per day for special services such as getting you difficult to get resta...

Biking the Jurassic Coast

Finally we did it! A bike tour – a bike with two wheels and human powered that is. My boyfriend has for a few years now been suggesting that we go a biking holiday. Me, I’m no hard core biker, so wasn’t sure I would be able to keep up. However we were going to England for a friend’s wedding and to see my cousin and well, we had 5 days that we didn’t have a plan for. The Exodus/Headwater Dorset and the Jurassic Coast self guided bike trip had caught my eye and well, it fitted into our schedule quite nicely. I reviewed the rating ‘leisurely’ and decided that this was a sign that I need to try t...
