Airport Security – Innovative? Inspired? Irritating?

I was high on Travel! We had just wrapped up a luxury experiential travel conference in Marrakech, Morocco together with high-level travel industry colleagues from around the globe. It was an inspiring week of networking, great celebrations and innovative travel concepts that can change our perspective of the world we explore. Message me – I’d be happy to share some exciting ideas for your next journey. And then it was time to return to Canada. I was flying out of Casablanca bound for Vancouver via Montreal – and that’s where the word ‘innovation’ took on a whole new meaning. Having undergon...

Dukerol! Why didn't I take it!

My Mexico family vacation wasn't quite like the Dukerol ads! You may have seen the commercials for Dukerol where a gorgeous woman in a bikini is sun bathing on the sands of the Caribbean, drinking a margherita, while watching as her children are running around splashing in the water. Well… that was how my trip to Mexico was supposed to look but instead I stopped at this cute curbside pub, where I had the most amazing Mojito of my life, to wind up at 3am hanging over a toilet. What I had failed to think about was that the water outside of the resort was not filtered water and I forgot to ask f...

Tobacco Caye in Belize

Tobacco Caye, Belize I was lucky enough to visit Tobacco Caye, Belize last April. Tobacco Caye is a 4-acre island on the Belize Reef. We flew with Delta Airlines Vancouver to LAX then a red eye to Belize City where we jumped on Tropic air to Dangriga. From here we boarded a small water taxi for a 1 hour journey to Joe Jo’s Lodge on Tobacco Caye. Tobacco Caye and its half dozen small lodges are low key, you won’t find an all-inclusive resort here. We enjoyed three daily meals which were included. Each meal was made, caught or grown on the island or mainland. We choose Joe Jo’s Lodge and were ...

Travel Insurance - for those inconvenient times!

Isn't it always that things happen at the most inopportune times! That is why we say 'Make lemonade out of lemons', 'Things can only get better' and, 'What doesn't kill you makes you stronger'. We all know these sayings too well. I had been making sure I had my dose of Vitamin D before the Canadian winter set in and experiencing the turquoise waters of the Bahamas (those waters are for real people!) when my top-notch dance moves were interrupted by a fall and consequent broken wrist. I had to say "Wow, really? Now?". Suddenly it was no more beach time and 35°C of warm sun baking (responsibly)...

My Bucket List Gorilla Trek

Of Ponies and Gorillas! Most people, including myself associate Uganda with gorilla trekking. And that is absolutely true – as I’ve now experienced – but there is so much more to this ‘Pearl of Africa’, as Winston Churchill called it. I arrived at Entebbe International Airport and was whisked away to a comfortable guesthouse, where I met up with the other travellers in my small group. After a good nights’ sleep we returned to the airport for our small plane transfer to Kihiihi, the closest town to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – home of the endangered Mountain Gorillas. The trek seemed da...

Whistler night walk with Vallea Lumina

Wise old growth trees and stardust bring Whistlers' Cougar Mountain to life. It is said that Leonard and Gloria set off looking for the Hidden Valley. They haven’t been seen since their departure. Last night my friends and I set off through the forest at Whistler’s Cougar Mountain to find this 'Hidden Valley' and report back any sightings of Leonard and Gloria. Along the 1.5km path we tested our Morse code skills to report back sightings and were entertained by beautiful music accompanied by spectacular light shows. A night time walk in the forest has never been so enchanting. This outdoor p...
